CBS CONSUMER PRODUCTS ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF STAR TREK UNIVERSE
Mattel, Fortune Fashions and Pez Lead the Pack
of More Than a Dozen New Licensing Partners
New York, June 10, 2008 - CBS Consumer Products, a division of CBS Entertainment, announced today more than a dozen licensing partners signed on to develop merchandise for the iconic Star Trek franchise, including Mattel, Fortune Fashions and Pez. Products will include multi-series franchise items that will expand the core collectibles lines and allow fans to enjoy the entire Star Trek universe.
"We want to make the brand more accessible to not only those fans of Star Trek, but to all those fans of pop culture who appreciate the brand for what it represents," said Liz Kalodner, Executive Vice President and General Manager of CBS Consumer Products. "With a feature film release set for May 2009, Star Trek will be introduced to a whole new generation."
Mattel has licensed the worldwide rights to create numerous branded products including a line of Star Trek-themed Barbie® Collector dolls; Tyco® R/C flying radio controlled vehicles; a Scene It?® DVD game that includes content from Star Trek television series and movies; and a 20Q Star Trek trivia game.
Fortune Fashions will introduce a line of fashion-forward, trend-right tees featuring iconic characters and phrases from the Star Trek universe for the U.S. mid-tier and mass retail channels, while candy maker Pez will release its first-ever Star Trek collection this fall.
Other new partners taking part in the Star Trek licensing program include:
• Basic Fun (US & Canada) - Figural key chains along with talking key chains, pens and bottle openers
• DecoPac (US & Canada) - Cake decorating kits
• Dreamlink (US) - USB computer accessories
• GIT (Worldwide) - Digital collection of all Star Trek comics published through 2005
• Armitron/E. Gluck Corporation (US & Canada) - Watches
• IGPC (Worldwide) - Collectible stamps
• Les Chocolats Vadeboncoeur (Canada) - Easter chocolates
• Northwest (US & Canada) - Pillows and throws
• Round Two (US & Canada) - Polar Lights and AMT plastic model kits
• Rubies (Worldwide) - Costumes, Masks and Accessories
These new licensees join previously announced partners Playmates Toys, which will create action figures, vehicles, playsets and role play toys; NTD Apparel for tees in Canada; Hallmark for greeting cards, party goods and ornaments; and Pocket Books, Star Trek's long-time master publishing partner.
To kick off the program, CBS Consumer Products will host Leonard Nimoy, the original Mr. Spock, at Licensing 2008 International, located at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10th at the CBS Consumer Products booth #3749. Mr. Nimoy will be on hand for photos with guests.
