BEYONCE, CARRIE UNDERWOOD, SIR ELTON JOHN, FERGIE, JENNIFER HUDSON, JENNIFER LOPEZ, JOHN LEGEND, JOHN WILLIAMS, MARC ANTHONY, MARY J. BLIGE AND NELLY WILL PERFORM ON "MOVIES ROCK," A NEW ENTERTAINMENT SPECIAL CELEBRATING THE POWERFUL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MUSIC AND FILM, FRIDAY, DEC. 7

  Beyoncé, Carrie Underwood, Sir Elton John, Fergie, Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, John Williams, Marc Anthony, Mary J. Blige and Nelly will perform on MOVIES ROCK, a new entertainment special celebrating the powerful relationship between music and film, to be broadcast Friday, Dec. 7 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

 

The first annual MOVIES ROCK is a two-hour live event television special that will celebrate every dimension of music's leading role in moviemaking, from singing starlets to scene-stealing rappers, to directors whose indelible musical tastes redefine the way we listen to music and watch films.

 

The live event will take place at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Dec. 2. The Entertainment Industry Foundation will be a beneficiary of the project.

 

Beyoncé is a nine-time Grammy Award winner who shot to fame with the multi-platinum selling group Destiny's Child and who individually has sold over 11 million copies worldwide of her solo debut, "Dangerously in Love." Her new album, B'Day, was released worldwide on Sept. 4.

 

Carrie Underwood is a multi-platinum-selling recording artist who won the 2006 Grammy Award for Best New Artist.  She rose to fame as the winner of the fourth season of "American Idol."  Her debut album, Some Hearts, was certified six times platinum and is to date the fastest selling debut country album in history.  Her newest album, Carnival Ride, will be released this month.

 

Sir Elton John is a five-time Grammy and one-time Academy Award-winning singer, composer and pianist.  In his four-decade career, John has been one of the dominant forces in rock and popular music, selling more than 250 million albums, plus over 100 million singles, making him one of the most successful artists of all time.  He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and was knighted in 1998.

 

Since taking a hiatus as lead vocalist for the Black Eyed Peas, Fergie's solo debut album, The Dutchess, has spawned three Billboard Hot 100 number one hits, making her the first female solo artist to have three number ones from the same album since 1999.

 

Jennifer Hudson is an Academy Award-winning actress and singer. She first gained notice as one of the finalists on the third season of "American Idol."  She went on to star as Effie White in the 2006 motion picture musical "Dreamgirls," for which she won numerous awards including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA, a SAG Award and two BET Awards.

 

Few artists have traveled so effortlessly from one artistic medium to another as Jennifer Lopez.  With her incredible array of talent as an acclaimed movie actress, a chart-topping musical artist and a fashion industry entrepreneur, her trailblazing career boasts major box office hits, prestigious film nominations, the successful fashion line Sweetface by J. Lo, bestselling fragrances and over 35 million albums sold worldwide.  Her new pop album, Brave, is set for release this month. Brave is her sixth studio album and her second release this year after her first all-Spanish album, Como Ama Una Mujer, was released in March.

 

John Legend won five Grammy Awards for his debut album, Get Lifted, which featured collaborations with Kanye West and Snoop Dog.  Prior to his album debut, Legend's career gained momentum through a series of successful collaborations with multiple established artists, including Jay Z, Lauryn Hill and Alicia Keys.

 

Five time Academy Award-winner John Williams has composed many of the most famous film scores in history, including those for "Jaws," "Star Wars," "Superman," "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Jurassic Park," "Schindler's List" and "Harry Potter."  In addition, he has composed theme music for four Olympic games, numerous television series and concert pieces.  He served as the principal conductor for the Boston Pops Orchestra from 1980-1993 and is now the orchestra's laureate conductor. 

 

Grammy Award-winning recording artist Marc Anthony is the biggest selling salsa singer of all time, selling over 10 million albums worldwide.   His English language album debut, Marc Anthony, launched the hit single "I Need to Know" and went on to achieve triple platinum status in the United States.  He recently released the greatest hits album Sigo Siendo Yo, and starred as the Puerto Rican salsa pioneer Héctor Lavoe in the feature film "El Cantante."

 

Mary J. Blige has sold over 40 million records around the world since her career began in 1991.  In that span, she has won six Grammy Awards, had 31 charting hits on the Billboard Hot 100, a total of nine gold and platinum selling singles worldwide, and seven multi-platinum selling albums.  She is also widely known as the "Queen of Hip Hop Soul."

 

One of the best-selling rappers of all time, Nelly has won three Grammy Awards and sold over 40 million albums worldwide.

 

MOVIES ROCK is being produced by Condé Nast Media Group, the Producers Guild of America and the Entertainment Industry Foundation. Condé Nast Media Group President Richard D. Beckman, and PGA board members Kathleen Kennedy and Bruce Cohen will serve as executive producers, along with Don Mischer of Don Mischer Productions.
