BARBARA ABSECK PROMOTED TO VICE PRESIDENT, EAST COAST, CBS COMMUNICATIONS

            Barbara Abseck has been promoted to Vice President, East Coast, CBS Communications, it was announced by Phil Gonzales, Vice President, Communications, CBS Entertainment.

 

            In this role, which reports to Gonzales, Abseck will continue to head CBS Communications' New York Entertainment unit, spearhead the Network's media relations with the New York and East Coast media, and serve as the press liaison for the Marketing Group's advertising and promotion campaigns supporting prime time entertainment programming.  

 

              This season, Abseck worked on two of the Network's notable campaigns.  She helped launch "Undercover Boss," which premiered after CBS's coverage of the Super Bowl to an audience of 38.6 million viewers and has become the number one new series of the 2009-2010 season. 

 

            She also spearheaded the Network's publicity campaign unveiling the first-ever use of video in a print advertisement--the revolutionary CBS/Pepsi Max Fall 2009 Video-in-Print technology packaged in Entertainment Weekly's Fall TV preview issue, which received prominent coverage in a variety of newspapers, trade publications, broadcast outlets and websites in the U.S. and abroad.    

 

            Since joining CBS, Abseck handled publicity for many of the Network's biggest event programming, including multi-tiered campaigns for the miniseries "Jesus," "Joan of Arc," "Scott Turow's Reversible Errors" and "Pope John Paul II," as well as the movie "The Rosa Parks Story" and the Network's live broadcast of "On Golden Pond," among others. 

 

              Since 2001, Abseck has also been the East Coast based publicist for the "Hallmark Hall of Fame" presentations and was the lead publicist on "The Kennedy Center Honors" for eight years.  She also helped launch the series "Without a Trace" and "Ghost Whisperer."

 

          Abseck was promoted to the newly-created position of Executive Director, East Coast Manager, CBS Communications in April 2008.  Previously, she had been Executive Director, East Coast Publicity since 2005.  She served as Director, Entertainment Communications from 2002-2005.  She joined CBS in October 1993 as an assistant in the Network's media relations department, was elevated to junior press representative in 1996, press representative in 1997, senior press representative in 1998 and Manager, East Coast publicity in 2000.

 

            Abseck is a graduate of Villanova University (B.A. communications).
