CBS Places First  the 10:00 PM Time Period in Adults 18-49 Four Out of Five Weeknights; CBS Wins Monday Through Friday in Viewers and Key Demos

 

CBS dominated the second week of the season in viewers, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, led by the Network's new and returning hit comedies and dramas, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Oct. 2.

CBS won the week in viewers with an advantage of nearly +3.6 million viewers over its closest competitor (ABC), by +0.4 in adults 18-49 over second place FOX and by +1.0 in adults 25-54 over second place FOX, separating itself even further from its competitors compared to the same week last year when CBS led in viewers by +2.7m, in adults 18-49 by +0.3 and in adults 25-54 by +0.8.

 

The Network was up +3% in viewers and adults 18-49 and +2% in adults 25-54 compared to the same week last year.  Through the first two weeks of the season, CBS is first in viewers, adults 18-49 (tie) and adults 25-54.

 

For the second consecutive week, CBS had the most programs in the top 10 among adults 18-49 with TWO AND A HALF MEN (#2), THE BIG BANG THEORY (#5), MIKE & MOLLY (#6), 2 BROKE  GIRLS (#7), HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (#8) and NCIS (#10).

 

This marks the first time any network has dominated the top 10 in week two in adults 18-49 since 2003.

 

Among dramas, CBS had the top seven in viewers led by NCIS (#1), NCIS: LOS ANGELES (#2), THE MENTALIST (#3), CRIMINAL MINDS (#4), PERSON OF INTEREST (#5), UNFORGETTABLE (#6) and CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (#7).

 

Overall, CBS had six of the top 10 programs in viewers, more than all the other networks combined including TWO AND A HALF MEN (#1), NCIS (#2), 60 MINUTES (#4) NCIS: LOS ANGELES (#5) THE BIG BANG THEORY (# ) MIKE & MOLLY (# 10).

 

2 BROKE GIRLS was the week's #1 new comedy in viewers and is the #1 new series among adults 18-49. PERSON OF INTEREST and UNFORGETTABLE are the week's top two new programs, delivering more viewers than "X-Factor."

 

NCIS was the week's top drama in viewers and adults 18-49, topped "Glee" in both viewers and adults 18-49 by its largest margin to-date.

 

For the week in viewers:  CBS (12.24m), NBC (7.09m), ABC (8.67m) and FOX (7.39m).  Season-to-date:  CBS (12.18m), ABC (9.27m), FOX (7.88m) and NBC (7.29m). 

 

For the week in key demographics CBS was first in adults 25-54 (4.1/10) and adults 18-49 (3.2/09).  Compared to the same week last year, CBS was up +4% in households, +3% in both viewers and adults 18-49, +2% in adults 25-54.  CBS was the only broadcast network to post gains in adults 18-49. Season-to-date, CBS is first in adults 25-54 and tied for first in adults 18-49 (with FOX).  For the second consecutive year, CBS was first in these measures through Week #2.  

 

For the week in households:  CBS (7.6/12), NBC (4.5/07), ABC (5.6/09) and FOX (4.3/07).

 

CBS Weekly Highlights:

 

 HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was first in adults 25-54 (5.1/13), adults 18-49 (4.5/12), adults 18-34 (4.2/13), second in households (6.4/10) and viewers (10.50m). 

 

 2 BROKE GIRLSwas first in adults 25-54 (5.5/12), adults 18-49 (4.6/12), second in households (7.1/10) and viewers (11.75m). 

 

 TWO AND A HALF MEN (9:00-9:31PM) was first in households (12.2/17), viewers (20.53m), adults 25-54 (8.7/18) and adults 18-49 (7.4/17). 

 

 MIKE & MOLLY (P)  was first in adults 25-54 (5.9/12), adults 18-49 (4.8/11), second in households (8.4/12) and viewers (13.86m).  MIKE & MOLLY posted series highs in these measures.  Compared to last year's series premiere (on September 20, 2010), MIKE & MOLLY was up +11% in households (from 7.6/11), +16% in adults 25-54 (from 5.1/11), +23% in adults 18-49 (from 3.9/10) and added +1.63m viewers (from 12.23m, +13%). 

 

 HAWAII FIVE-0 won its time slot in adults 25-54 (4.1/09), adults 18-49 (3.2/08), second in both households (7.1/11) and viewers (11.26m). 

 

 NCIS was first in households (12.0/19), viewers (19.51m), adults 25-54 (5.7/15) and adults 18-49 (4.2/12) for the second consecutive week.  NCIS posted its largest advantage to date over a first-run "Glee" in households (+6.9 rtg pts), viewers (+10.91m), adults 25-54 (+2.1 rtg pts) and adults 18-49 (+0.5 rtg pts). 

 

 NCIS: LOS ANGELES was first in households (10.1/15), viewers (16.27m), adults 25-54 (4.8/11) and second in adults 18-49 (3.6/09, -0.1 behind FOX). 

 

 UNFORGETTABLEwas first in households (8.1/13), viewers (12.43m), adults 25-54 (3.7/09) and adults 18-49 (2.5/07) for the second consecutive week. 

 

 SURVIVOR: SOUTH PACIFIC was first in adults 25-54 (4.4/11), second in households (6.4/10, -0.1 behind FOX), viewers (10.71m, -0.40m viewers behind FOX) and adults 18-49 (3.2/09).  Compared to last week, SURVIVOR: SOUTH PACIFIC was up +2% in households (from 6.3/10), +2% in adults 25-54 (from 4.3/11), even in adults 18-49 and added +250,000 viewers (from 10.46m, +2%). 

 

 CRIMINAL MINDS was first in households (7.8/12), second in viewers (12.58m, -0.03m behind FOX).

 

  CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION was first in households (7.4/12), viewers (11.76m), adults 25-54 (3.9/09) and adults 18-49 (3.1/08).  CBS won the 10PM hour for the third straight night in both adults 25-54 and adults 18-49, second straight in both households and viewers. 

 

 THE BIG BANG THEORYwas first in households (8.8/15), viewers (14.74m), adults 25-54 (6.2/17) and adults 18-49 (4.9/15).  THE BIG BANG THEORYwas up +2% in households (from 8.6/14), even in adults 18-49 and added +440,000 viewers (from 14.30m, +3%) compared to last week's season premiere.  THE BIG BANGTHEORYdelivered its largest Thursday audience and matched best adults 18-49 rating.  THE BIG BANG THEORYwas the night's #1 program in households, viewers, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49. 

 

 HOW TO BE A GENTLEMAN (P) was second in households (5.5/09), viewers (8.98m), adults 25-54 (3.6/09) and adults 18-49 (2.7/08). 

 

 PERSON OF INTERESTwas first in households (7.7/12), second in viewers (12.52m, -0.31m viewers behind FOX).

 

 THE MENTALIST was first in households (8.1/13), viewers (12.92m), adults 25-54 (3.7/09) and second in adults 18-49 (2.6/07, -0.2 behind ABC). 

 

 A GIFTED MAN was first in households (5.4/10), viewers (8.18m), second in adults 25-54 (1.7/05) and adults 18-49 (1.2/04). 

 

  CSI: NY was first in households (6.5/11), viewers (10.07m), adults 25-54 (2.3/06) and adults 18-49 (1.7/05). 

 

   BLUE BLOODSwon its time slot in households (7.3/13), viewers (11.30m), adults 25-54 (2.6/07) and tied for first in adults 18-49 (1.8/06, with NBC's second hour of "Dateline").

 HOME DEPOT PRIME COLLEGE FOOTBALLscored a 4.6/08 in households with 7.59m viewers, 3.1/09 in adults 25-54, 2.8/09 in adults 18-49, 2.4/09 in adults 18-34, 4.1/11 in men 25-54, 3.7/11 in men 18-49 and 3.1/12 in men 18-34 from 8:00-11:37PM.

 

From 7:00-7:23PM, CBS NFL NATIONAL run over posted a 17.3/30 with 29.15m viewers, 11.4/31 in adults 25-54 and 10.2/31 in adults 18-49.

 

 60 MINUTES(7:23-8:23PM) posted a 10.6/17 with 17.11m viewers, 5.0/12 in adults 25-54 and 3.5/09 in adults 18-49.  In the 7:30PM-8:30PM hour, CBS was first in households, viewers, adults 25-54 and second in adults 18-49 (-0.1 behind NBC).  Compared to last week's season premiere, 60 MINUTES was up +34% in households (from 7.9/13), +47% in adults 25-54 (from 3.4/09), +52% in adults 18-49 (from 2.3/06) and added +4.84m viewers (from 12.27m, +39%).  

 

 THE AMAZING RACE 19(8:23-9:23PM) scored a 6.4/10 with 10.87m viewers, 4.3/09 in adults 25-54 and 3.2/07 in adults 18-49 - second in these measures in the 8:30-9:30PM time slot.  Compared to last week's season premiere, THE AMAZING RACE 19 was up +5% in households (from 6.1/09), +8% in adults 25-54 (from 4.0/09), +7% in adults 18-49 (from 3.0/07) and added +690,000 viewers (from 10.18m, +7%).  

 

  THE GOOD WIFE (9:23-10:23PM) delivered a 7.0/11 with 11.08m viewers, 3.1/06 in adults 25-54 and 2.2/05 in adults 18-49.  CBS was second in households and viewers, third in key demos.  Compared to last week's season premiere, THE GOODWIFE was even in households, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49, adding +420,000 viewers (from 10.66m, +4%). 

 

   CSI: MIAMI(10:23-11:23PM) delivered a 6.7/12 with 10.34m viewers, 3.2/08 in adults 25-54 and 2.4/06 in adults 18-49.  In the 10:30PM half-hour, CBS was second in households, viewers, adults 25-54, third in adults 18-49 (-0.2 behind ABC).  Compared to last week's season premiere, CSI: MIAMI was up +5% in households (from 6.4/10), +7% in adults 25-54 (from 3.0/07), +4% in adults 18-49 (from 2.3/06) and added +450,000 viewers (from 9.89m, +5%).

Note:  DVR penetration is at 42%, up from 38% last year. Last Fall, Live+7 audiences for original entertainment series on CBS gained over 1.8 million viewers, on average, over Live+ Same Day ratings, more than any other network.  Thisseason, we expect DVR penetration to continue to increase and, as a result, we expect DVR playback audiences to grow to as well.
