In August 2010, Ray LaMontagne and the Pariah Dogs released the critically-acclaimed, GRAMMY Award-winning album, God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 and #1 on the Digital Album chart. This marked a personal sales best for LaMontagne and tied his debut album chart position at #3 with Gossip in the Grain. The single, "Beg, Steal or Borrow," became Ray's first radio #1 on the AAA BDS and Mediabase. In addition to winning a GRAMMY Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album for God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise, the album also garnered nominations for the coveted Song of The Year category for "Beg, Steal or Borrow" as well as for Best Engineered Album. The band will head out on the road again for a nationwide summer tour beginning Wednesday, May 25 in Waterbury, Conn.
London-born Tinie Tempah, already a huge, double BRIT Award-winning superstar across the pond with the #1 selling debut album by a U.K. artist in 2010, has his first certified Gold single in the U.S. with the radio smash, "Written in the Stars." Tinie's U.S. debut album, Disc-Overy, is on its way to being certified double-platinum in the U.K. and has spawned four Top 5 U.K. singles, including two #1 songs. It will be released stateside on Tuesday, May 17 with the addition of new songs recorded in the U.S. earlier this year. Rolling Stone recently featured the busy performer in their "Hot List" issue, affirming that Tinie is "poised to become the first MC from the U.K.'s raucous 'grime' scene to climb the U.S. pop charts."
On Tuesday, May 17, one day prior to his LIVE ON LETTERMAN appearance, rocker Ben Harper will release Give Till It's Gone, his 10th studio album. The record, led by the single, "Rock N' Roll Is Free," was recorded at the Los Angeles studio of Jackson Browne, who harmonizes with Harper on the song, "Pray That Our Love Sees the Dawn." The album also features two tracks co-written and performed with Ringo Starr, the psychedelic-tinged "Spilling Faith" and "Get There From Here," an improvisational instrumental. Harper, who has been storming the music scene for nearly 20 years, has received two GRAMMY Awards, both in 2005, for Best Pop Instrumental Performance and for Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album. He is currently playing many major festivals and will continue to perform in the U.S. and abroad throughout the summer.
Beady Eye was formed by three former members of Oasis, including enigmatic front man and lead vocalist Liam Gallagher, along with Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock. The multi-platinum and GRAMMY-nominated Oasis sold more than 70 million albums worldwide, spanning seven studio albums that were awarded six BRIT Awards, 15 NME Awards, nine Q Awards and four MTV Europe Music Awards. Beady Eye's debut album, Different Gear, Still Speeding, was released by Dangerbird Records in North America on March 1 to rave reviews. NPR recently noted, "On Different Gear, Still Speeding, the first album from Beady Eye, Liam Gallagher sounds as if he's just escaped captivity: he's wild and loose and ready to party...Gallagher follows the example of artists like Jerry Lee Lewis, playing up his rogue side and channeling it into ripping, stomping rock 'n' roll." The taping of the band's June 22 appearance on the LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN will mark the quartet's U.S. television debut, as well as their first New York City performance.
