CBS INTERACTIVE WINS DIGIDAY PUBLISHING AWARD FOR BEST USE OF DATA BY A PUBLISHER FOR ADVERTISING
Metacrtitic.com Takes Home Honor for Oscar Campaign Designed to Appeal to Younger Audience
SAN FRANCISCO, April 17, 2012 - CBS Interactive today announced that Metacritic.com has won the Digiday Publishing Award for Best Use of Data by a Publisher for Advertising. The award was presented at a gala reception in New York for the company’s work with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). The 2012 Digiday Publishing Awards (DPAs) honor overall excellence and breakthrough achievement in digital publishing, branded content and advertising technology.
In 2011 AMPAS asked Metacritic to help refresh the image of the Oscar ceremony by providing a creative solution using data that would appeal to a younger demographic. Knowing that Twitter’s audience skewed amongst the youngest in social media, Metacritic built a solution allowing users to see the Metascores of each nominated film, and then click on the score to read live what people were tweeting about them. Thousands of users interacted with the campaign and remained engaged to the end of the Oscar ceremony.
The DPAs are presented by Digiday, and the hosts of the Digiday Publishing Summit, which includes hundreds of leading publishers, brand executives, publishers, journalists, experts and technology visionaries.
Metacritic was also recently nominated for a prestigious Webby Award in the guides/ratings/review category, the winner of which will be announced on May 1st.
