CBS NEWS FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT CLARISSA WARD WINS A PEABODY AWARD FOR THE “CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY” FOR HER SERIES OF REPORTS FROM INSIDE SYRIA
CBS News Foreign Correspondent Clarissa Ward won a Peabody Award for the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY for her series of reports from inside Syria, it was announced today by the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Ward is one of the few Western journalists to have reported independently from Syria. In December, she entered that country alone, posing as a tourist. With a small camera, she captured a rare first-hand look inside the revolution, meeting with anti-government activists and members of the Free Syrian Army to report on their struggle to defend themselves against the Syrian government’s brutal and deadly crackdown.
The Peabody is one of the oldest and most prestigious awards given for outstanding work in electronic media. The program has been administered by the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication since its inception in 1940.
Patricia Shevlin is the executive producer of the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY.
