NEIL PATRICK HARRIS, EMMY AWARD-WINNING ACTOR AND STAR OF THE HIT CBS COMEDY “HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER,” DISCUSSES HOSTING THE 66TH ANNUAL TONY® AWARDS ON “CBS THIS MORNING”

HARRIS TELLS CO-HOSTS CHARLIE ROSE, GAYLE KING AND ERICA HILL, “IT’S SORT OF MY JOB TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO WATCH AND SEE WHAT THE SEASON’S SHOWS ARE”

Neil Patrick Harris, Emmy award-winning actor and star of the hit CBS comedy HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, discussed hosting THE 66th ANNUAL TONY® AWARDS with co-hosts Charlie Rose, Gayle King and Erica Hill, live today, June 8, 2012, on CBS THIS MORNING on the CBS Television Network (7:00 AM – 9:00 AM).

Below is an excerpt from the interview.

KING: So, it's the third time. Are you thinking you'll get it right this time? No, your reputation precedes you, because when people see that you're doing it they go, “great, because he's the best.” You know, it's sort of like people get excited about Billy Crystal hosting the Oscars. That’s how people feel about you hosting the Tonys.

HARRIS: The Tonys are kind of an unappreciated awards show as far as I'm concerned, because it's kind of a niche market. Some people that don't know Broadway and don't know the shows really have no interest in tuning in. So, it's sort of my job to encourage people to watch and see what the season’s shows are. It's less performing and entertaining on my end and more, kind of, emceeing a big night. It's a bit of an infomercial for Broadway, but they need that, you know? Broadway people are underappreciated. A lot of people don't know who some of these people are that work ridiculously hard, show after show after show.
