MOGUL HARVEY WEINSTEIN SHARES HIS THOUGHTS ON THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE AND DISCUSSES FILMMAKING ON “CBS THIS MORNING”

WEINSTEIN TELLS CO-HOSTS CHARLIE ROSE AND ERICA HILL, “PRESIDENT OBAMA WILL WIN ONCE PEOPLE REALIZE ROMNEY’S POLITICS FOR ECONOMICS ARE POLITICS OF THE PAST”

Producer Harvey Weinstein shared his thoughts on the Presidential race and discussed filmmaking with co-hosts Charlie Rose and Erica Hill, live today, June 15, 2012, on CBS THIS MORNING on the CBS Television Network (7:00 AM – 9:00 AM).

Below are excerpts from the interview.

ROSE: All these fundraisers for President Obama, are you going to every one of them?

WEINSTEIN: As many as I can go to.

ROSE: Are you beginning to get worried about this because the race is very, very close?

WEINSTEIN: I think as Obama said yesterday in his speech, it's going to tighten up and it's going to go the other way. I think President Obama will win once people realize Romney's politics for economics are politics of the past.

ROSE:  I want to read you something that Johnny Depp said about you. This is when he was writing about you for TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World. “He stops at nothing for what he believes in. He can be your worst nightmare and your closest friend. He is a producer.” A nightmare you cause these poor actors?

WEINSTEIN: Poor Johnny. Such an unintelligent, bad-looking human being. First of all, I consider him one of my best friends.

ROSE: Are you a terror for these people?

WEINSTEIN: I’m a terror because if I believe in something and I want somebody to promote the movie or promote the endeavor that we did, and if I think it’s worthwhile. I’m less hard on a commercial venture. If we make Scary Movie 5 or we do some big action movie, I don’t care if they promote it or not. It’s when we make something small, challenging, difficult, that needs the participations of an artist, I can be scary.

ROSE: Tell us about that.

WEINSTEIN: Or as Madonna calls me, “The punisher.”
