Former Vice President Dick Cheney tells CBS THIS MORNING that Chuck Hagel, President Obama’s nominee for defense secretary, is a “foil” for the President to do “serious, serious damage to our military capabilities.” CBS THIS MORNING co-host Charlie Rose spoke with Cheney today during a wide-ranging interview that will be broadcast tomorrow, Feb. 12 on CBS THIS MORNING (7:00-9:00 AM) on the CBS Television Network.
An excerpt of the interview is available on CBSNews.com. The excerpt is below:
CHENEY: “With respect to Chuck Hagel and – and Brennan, at Defense and C.I.A. – just in the last week, their performance in front of the committees that have to confirm them has been pretty poor. And that’s, you know, not my judgment. That’s the judgment, as well, of senators on both sides of the aisle. My guess is, if you look at what the President's motives are for picking Chuck Hagel, I think he wants a Republican to go be the – the foil, if you will, for what he wants to do to the Defense Department, which is I think to do serious, serious damage to our military capabilities.”
