KATIE COURIC WILL ANCHOR "GERALD FORD: DEATH OF A PRESIDENT" --CBS NEWS' SPECIAL COVERAGE OF PRESIDENT GERALD FORD'S FUNERAL BEGINNING FRIDAY (29)

Couric to Anchor the CBS EVENING NEWS From Washington D.C.

On Saturday, Dec. 29 and Tuesday, Jan. 2  

            Katie Couric will anchor "Gerald Ford: Death of a President" -- CBS News' special coverage of the events and ceremonies surrounding President Gerald Ford's state funeral beginning Friday (29).  Couric will anchor the coverage on Saturday (30) and Tuesday (2) from Washington, D.C.

Live coverage includes:

•·        The family and coffin arriving at the church for the private funeral service (service closed to cameras) on Friday in Palm Desert, California.  Coverage begins at approximately 3:20 PM, ET.

•·        The arrival of Ford's body in Washington, D.C. and a state funeral at the U.S. Capitol to begin a period of lying in state in the Capitol Rotunda on Saturday in Washington, D.C.  Coverage begins at approximately 5:20 PM, ET. 

•·        The funeral service at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday.  Special coverage will begin following THE EARLY SHOW (7:00-9:00 AM, ET). 

•·        The ceremonies in Michigan on Wednesday (3) afternoon.  

Couric will anchor a special edition of the CBS EVENING NEWS (6:30-7:00 PM, ET/PT) from Washington, D.C. on both Saturday and Tuesday. 

CBS News' special coverage will include analysis and perspective from CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent Bob Schieffer and reports from CBS News correspondents in California and Michigan.  CBS News consultant and renowned historian Douglas Brinkley will also contribute to the coverage.
