MIKE THOMAS PROMOTED TO VICE PRESIDENT OF PROGRAMMING FOR CBS RADIO BOSTON

Boston, MA -- Mike Thomas has been promoted to Vice President of Programming for CBS RADIO Boston, effective immediately; it was announced today by Mark Hannon, Senior Vice President and Market Manager for CBS RADIO Boston.

Thomas, who has served as Program Director for CBS RADIO Boston’s WZLX-FM 100.7 Classic Rock since 2006 and 98.5 The Sports Hub (WBZ-FM) since 2009, will continue to oversee all programming and strategic planning for the two stations.  As Vice President of Programming for CBS RADIO Boston, Thomas will assume an expanded role at all five CBS RADIO Boston stations including WBZ-AM NewsRadio 1030, MIX 104.1 (WBMX-FM) and WODS-FM 103.3, and he will work with those stations’ Program Directors on content development and audience acquisition.

Since Mike's arrival at WZLX in 2006, he has built the station into a consistent ratings powerhouse.  His launch of 98.5 The Sports Hub in 2009 has been one of the most successful in recent radio history, and the station being named Sports Station of the Year at the 2011 National Association of Broadcasters' (NAB) Marconi Radio Awards was a tremendous accomplishment.  I look forward to using his strategic approach and programming insights to impact the overall CBS Radio stable of stations in Boston,” said Hannon when announcing Thomas’ promotion.

Thomas has nearly 20 years of top management experience as a radio program director.  Before serving as Program Director for CBS RADIO Boston’s WZLX, WBCN and 98.5 The Sports Hub, Thomas was Program Director as well as midday on-air personality at KGB in San Diego, CA.  Prior to that he programmed WFBQ in Indianapolis, IN,  WTUE and WXEG in Dayton, OH and WYMG in Springfield, IL.

In addition to 98.5 The Sports Hub (WBZ-FM) being named Sports Station of the Year at the 2011 National Association of Broadcasters' (NAB) Marconi Radio Awards, Thomas has received many honors over the course of his distinguished career.  While at WFBQ, Thomas was named Classic Rock Program Director of the Year by an industry trade magazine, and his station was nominated for Marconi Radio Awards for Rock Station of the Year.  Thomas was also named one of the top Program Directors in the country in Radio Ink's 40 Best PD's in America issue.

Thomas grew up in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.  He is an avid sports fan and enjoys running, golf, skiing, hockey, baseball, and football.  He lives in Marlborough, Mass. with his wife and two children.

CBS RADIO, one of the largest major-market radio operators in the United States, operates 130 radio stations including Boston’s WBMX-FM (MIX 104.1), WBZ-AM (NewsRadio 1030), WBZ-FM (98.5 The Sports Hub), WODS-FM (103.3), and WZLX-FM (Classic Rock 100.7).
