DEFENDING CHAMPION ADAM SCOTT HEADS FIELD AT "VALERO TEXAS OPEN" AS PGA TOUR TEES OFF IN LONE STAR STATE ON CBS SPORTS APRIL 16-17
CBS Sports' golf coverage swings into Texas this weekend at the VALERO TEXAS OPEN with third and final-round action at TPC San Antonio AT&T Oaks Course on Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17 (3:00-6:00 PM, ET; both days), live on the CBS Television Network.
Bill Macatee anchors CBS Sports' coverage of the Valero Texas Open along with Ian Baker- Finch in the 18th hole tower. Peter Oosterhuis calls the action at the 17th hole and Peter Kostis at the 16th hole. David Feherty serves as on-course reporter. Lance Barrow is Coordinating Producer and Steve Milton is Director of CBS Sports' golf coverage. Harold Bryant is Vice President, Production, CBS Sports.
Last year, Adam Scott rallied from four strokes back on the final day, consisting of 36 holes, to beat Fredrik Jacobson by a stroke to win his seventh career PGA TOUR event. Scott looks to defend his title at the Valero Texas Open as he takes on a strong field that includes seven major championship winners: Angel Cabrera, Geoff Ogilvy, Rich Beem, Justin Leonard, Mike Weir, David Duval and Shaun Micheel. Among others competing are University of Texas grad Jhonattan Vegas, who made his first professional start at the 2008 Valero Texas Open, San Antonio native Jimmy Walker, who has three top-10s in nine starts this year, Jacobson, Anthony Kim, Stewart Cink, Scott Verplank, Ricky Barnes, Steve Elkington, Martin Laird, J.B. Holmes, Rocco Mediate, Kevin Na, Bo Van Pelt, Ryan Palmer, Paul Goydos, Brandt Snedeker, Charley Hoffman, Brian Gay, Jesper Parnevik, Tim Herron, Chez Reavie, Vaughn Taylor, Kevin Stadler and San Antonio resident Cameron Beakman.
Last week Scott had his best career finish in 40 major championship starts when he tied for second at the Masters®. His victory last year at the Valero Texas Open was his third career victory in the state of Texas, having won the 2007 Shell Houston Open and 2008 HP Byron Nelson Championship. Scott was the first Australian to win here since Bruce Crampton in 1964 and the first international champion since Nick Price. Leonard, a Texas native, has won the Valero Texas Open three times and finished second twice. The Valero Texas Open is the third-oldest event on the PGA TOUR (1922) and is the longest-running event held in the same city.
