FURYK, SCOTT, FOWLER, MAHAN, GLOVER, GARCIA AND TOMS TEE IT UP IN THIRD LEG OF PGA TOUR'S TEXAS SWING AT "CROWNE PLAZA INVITATIONAL AT COLONIAL" MAY 21-22 ON CBS SPORTS
For the 38th straight year, CBS Sports returns to historic Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, with third- and final-round coverage of the CROWNE PLAZA INVITATIONAL AT COLONIAL on Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22 (3:00-6:00 PM, ET, both days), live on the CBS Television Network. The Colonial dates back to 1946 and is the longest-running event on the PGA TOUR to be played on the same course, and the 10th oldest overall.
Jim Nantz, the 2009 and 2008 Emmy Award Winner for "Outstanding Sports Personality - Play-by-Play" and five-time National Sportscaster of the Year, serves as anchor of CBS Sports' golf coverage. Sir Nick Faldo, winner of six major championships and more than 40 tournaments worldwide, serves as lead analyst. Ian Baker-Finch calls the action at the 17th hole and Gary McCord at the 16th hole. David Feherty and Peter Kostis serve as on-course reporters.
Defending champion Zach Johnson returns to Colonial after setting the 72-hole tournament record last year with 21-under-par 259. He is among a strong field with 10 past champions competing including Sergio Garcia, Kenny Perry, Rory Sabbatini, Tim Herron, Olin Browne, Tom Lehman, Fulton Allen, Keith Clearwater, David Frost and Corey Pavin, who is making his 28th start at the Colonial. They will tee it up against a field which also includes Jim Furyk, Adam Scott, Hunter Mahan, Rickie Fowler, Lucas Glover, Matt Kuchar, David Toms, Vijay Singh, Paul Goydos, Brandt Snedeker, Mark Wilson, Ricky Barnes, J.B. Holmes, Martin Laird, Stewart Cink, Tim Clark, Jason Day, Davis Love III, Angel Cabrera, Stuart Appleby, Jason Bohn, Ryan Palmer, Jeff Overton, Scott Verplank, Kevin Na, Steve Flesch, Sean O'Hair, Justin Leonard, Bo Van Pelt, David Duval, Brendan Steele, Steve Marino and John Daly.
OFF THE TEE WITH PETER KOSTIS
(On Colonial Country Club)
The "Horrible Horseshoe" is obviously a signature part of the golf course with the 3rd, 4th and 5th holes. The 5th hole is hardest hole on the golf course. You have to be careful, no question about it. Most likely you're going to see the golf course reward players who can position their golf ball and shape it both ways. It's not a golf course that can be easily overpowered. Phil Mickelson has done it in the past but you're more likely to see a Zack Johnson repeat or maybe David Toms. Tom's has a perfect game for Colonial. Can he recover from his playoff loss from last week at TPC? He's been rejuvenated because his teenage son is starting to play the game, so he's been getting out and playing more at home. It would be nice to see him succeed.
(On Tiger Woods' Injuries)
I'm amazed at how divisive the commentary has been about Tiger. He's injured. Why he's injured? How it happened? It's all irrelevant when you look at the total scheme of things. All I can think about is a Mickey Mantle, or someone like that, who had their career adversely affected by an injury. When you see a superstar athlete you want to see them compete at full strength. You want to see a star athlete like Tiger compete. You hate to think that there is potential for his career being affected from this injury. Whether you're a Tiger fan or not, it's a shame to see a world class athlete's career adversely affected or cut short by injury.
Lance Barrow is Coordinating Producer and Steve Milton is Director of CBS Sports' golf coverage. Harold Bryant is Vice President, Production, CBS Sports.
