"NFL ON CBS" HAS SUPER DAY AS NEW ENGLAND-INDIANAPOLIS GAME HAS LARGEST AUDIENCE IN 20 YEARS FOR REGULAR-SEASON SUNDAY AFTERNOON GAME

66.4 MILLION VIEWERS TUNE IN TO ALL-OR-PART OF PATRIOTS-COLTS GAME

  

Pats-Colts Attracts Most Viewers and Is Highest-Rated Program So Far For 2007-08 Television Season

  

CBS Sports' national game of its doubleheader coverage, highlighted by the New England Patriots remaining undefeated by beating the previously unbeaten Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Nov. 4, averaged an audience of 33.8 million viewers (Persons 2+) making it the largest audience for a Sunday afternoon NFL regular-season game on any network since at least 1987* (*as far back as CBS records).  The previous high for a Sunday afternoon regular-season game was 32.1 million (Dallas Cowboys-San Francisco 49ers; 11/12/95). 

 

The Patriots-Colts game was seen in all-or-part by 66.4 million viewers (watched six minutes-or-more).

  

THE NFL ON CBS's coverage of the New England-Indianapolis game has the largest audience for any program so far for the 2007-08 television season and attracted the most viewers of any program since the Academy Awards (40.4 million; 2/25/07).

 

The average audience for the Pats-Colts game peaked at 38.5 million viewers (7:00-7:27 PM, ET).

The Patriots-Colts game earned an average preliminary national household rating/share of 20.1/36, which is the highest-rated Sunday afternoon NFL regular-season game since a 20.2/36 (Dallas-San Francisco; 11/10/96).

  

The 20.1/36 is the highest-rated program-to-date in the 2007-08 television season (9/24-11/4/07).  The second highest-rated program of the 2007-08 season is CBS's New England-Dallas game (18.0/34; 10/14/07).  The Pats-Colts game also is the highest-rated program on television since the Academy Awards (23.8/37).

 

Sunday's game rating/share peaked at 22.3/36 (7:00-7:27 PM, ET).
