NEWS, NOTES & QUOTES FROM CBS SPORTS' "COLLEGE FOOTBALL TODAY" WITH TIM BRANDO, SPENCER TILLMAN AND TONY BARNHART AND CSTV'S "CHICK-FIL-A SEC TAILGATE" SHOW, HOSTED BY GREG AMSINGER FORMER GEORGIA ALL-AMERICAN DAVID POLLACK AND FORMER OLE MISS SAFETY HARRY HARRISON

CBS Sports pre-game show COLLEGE FOOTBALL TODAY hosted by Tim Brando, along with analysts Spencer Tillman and Tony Barnhart prior to SEC ON CBS broadcast - LSU-Ole Miss.

¨ (On Houston Nutt)

Tony Barnhart: This is a big game for Houston Nutt.  If he loses today and next week to LSU, now you're looking at 6-6. I told you before the year started a lot of the Arkansas family were not happy.  He needs to win today and he needs to play well against LSU

Spencer Tillman: I don't think you fire him if he (Darren McFadden) wins the Heisman.

¨ (On Steve Spurrier going to Texas A&M)

Tillman: There is no question there is plenty of motive to at least listen to outsiders, because he's still miffed about the academic trouble that cost him a player that he had big time plans for. But on his list of top 10 things he likes to do recruiting is about number nine on that list. So I don't think he's going  anywhere anytime soon.

Barnhart:  If you've got a high-profile job, of course you are going to call Steve  Spurrier.  You would be foolish not to, but I agree with Spencer. College Station in Texas is a long way from Crescent Beach.  Know what I mean?

¨ (On Michigan Coaching situation):

Barnhart:  We've seen Lloyd Carr coach his last regular-season game at Michigan. I've talked to friends who know him who say he was really tired before this season started, it got off to a slow start against Appalachian State and Oregon.  I think he's going to announce soon that this is his last year.

Tillman:  If you listen to what Lloyd Carr has been saying of late, evoking the message of confidence and  coming back when you are down,  his father talking about how  when the bully beat him up he  responded.  If he goes down today, he comes back.  He doesn't want to be on the losing side.

¨ (On Les Miles):

Barnhart: There is no doubt in my mind, if Michigan calls they would say Bo would want you to do it but I'm not sure the call is going to come.  I talked to friends who are close to the Michigan program and they said it's not a slam dunk that Les Miles is our first call.

The "CHICK-FIL-A SEC TAILGATE" is CSTV's new, weekly comprehensive pregame show, which serves as the ultimate source for coverage of SEC Football, offering a complete look at all the news and action from around the conference, analysis of the week's games, along with the SEC traditions and culture live from the heart of the tailgate parties.  The show is broadcasted live every week from the site of CBS Sports' SEC Game of the Week.

Today's show originated from outside of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium at the Grove Stage, prior to the LSU-Ole Miss game.  Hosted by CSTV's Greg Amsinger and former Georgia legend David Pollack, the weekly show features a rotating guest analyst.  This week's show featured legendary Ole Miss safety Harry Harrison.

News and Notes:

?? On LSU's weaknesses:
Pollack: LSU is thanking Oregon right now, because they do a terrible job against a spread offense and a running quarterback.  That's not their only weakness...LSU has dropped a ton of balls.
Harrison
: Special teams are going to play a major role in this game.  Ole Miss last year used special to get great field position, and that has to happen again today.

?? On Georgia's Offense:
David Pollack: Georgia's offense right now is unstoppable.  They're the most balanced offense in the SEC, maybe in the country.

?? On Mississippi State:

Harrison: Sylvester Croom is deep into his fourth year and it takes four good years to get your program in place and turned around.  The last three years have been terrible.  They've just had terrible seasons.  All of a sudden in the fourth year those kids believe in Coach Croom.  Their offense is still struggling, but they have a very opportunistic defense.

Pollack: This defense brings their lunchboxes...they are always ready to play. They've just done a great job making plays, even when their offense puts them in bad situations.

Amsinger: There is speculation that a team in the SEC needs seven victories to get to a bowl.  I hope that's not the case with Mississippi State.  If they go 6-6, get them to a bowl game, they deserve it.

?? On Tim Tebow and the Heisman Trophy:

Greg Amsinger: With 42 combined touchdowns, in my opinion, to do that in the SEC, he deserves to be the Heisman Trophy winner at this point.  Am I right or am I wrong?

Pollack: You are wrong.  He is the caretaker of an innovative offense.  The spread offense is spreading like wildfire throughout the NCAA.  If you put Matt Grothe from South Florida in this system, he would be just as successful.

Harrison: I'm going to side in between both of you guys...Florida has good weapons around him.  Tebow is obviously the center of that offense.  Does he have numbers to get you to New York in the process, absolutely.  Does he win?  I don't think so.

?? Greg Amsinger:  Are the fans in Tuscaloosa getting their money's worth from Nick Saban?

Pollack: The reason they're going to get their money's worth is because of recruits.  Nick Saban is a huge name.   He is going to do a great job over the next the couple years in terms of recruiting.

?? CSTV Football Insider Brian Curtis on Boise State and Hawaii possibly playing in a BCS Game:
If Hawaii ends the season undefeated, there are going to be people clamoring, especially out west, for them to be included in the BCS.  But I don't think they're going to finish in the top 12 in the BCS to get an automatic bid, and even if they finish in the top 16, are they that attractive of a team?

Boise State however has a huge fan base and a proven track record in the BCS.  If I'm the Sugar Bowl, I'd rather take an at-large SEC team and then I'd rather take a team like Boise State.  You know they're going to travel well and you know they can play on the big stage.  Hawaii has played absolutely nobody this year.  If they go to a BCS game, it's going to be embarrassing.  They are going to get clobbered.
