CBS SPORTS' COVERAGE OF PGA TOUR'S "WEST COAST SWING" CONTINUES IN PHOENIX WITH "FBR OPEN" ON FEB. 2-3
Arizona State alumni Phil Mickelson aims for his third title this weekend at the FBR OPEN in Scottsdale, Ariz, against a stellar tournament field which includes defending champion Aaron Baddeley, Vijay Singh, Stewart Cink, K.J. Choi, Rory Sabbatini, Fred Couples, Chris DiMarco, Chad Campbell, Lucas Glover, Justin Leonard, Geoff Ogilvy, Tom Lehman, Mark Calcavecchia, Charles Howell III, Jesper Parnevik, Stuart Appleby, Kenny Perry and fan favorite John Daly. CBS Sports will broadcast third and final-round coverage of the FBR OPEN from the TPC of Scottsdale on Saturday, Feb. 2 and Sunday, Feb. 3 (3:00-6:00 PM, ET, both days), live on the CBS Television Network.
Jim Nantz and Nick Faldo, winner of six majors and more than 40 tournaments, will provide commentary from the 18th hole tower, along with Peter Oosterhuis at the 17th hole, Gary McCord at the 16th hole and Ian Baker-Finch at the 15th hole. Peter Kostis and David Feherty will be on-course reporters.
"TEE TO GREEN" WITH GARY McCORD
(On Tiger Woods' win at Buick Invitational on CBS Sports where he earned his 62nd PGA TOUR title): Let us assume he is going to get better. He's only 32 and just getting into his golfing prime. He is starting to understand his swing and what it can produce. His putting stroke is sweet nectar and his short game connects the dots better than anyone. Nice time to be a golf announcer and not a player. Go get em' guys!...The win last week was his 62nd, he is only 32. He just tied Arnold Palmer and he was 43 when he won his 62nd. That was his 12th win in California and his sixth Buick Invitational. In his last three tournaments played he is averaging 65.66. All wins. Look out Ben Hogan, you're next...The U.S. Open is being held at Torrey Pines this coming June. It seems to be his personal playground winning five of the last six Buick Invitationals. The golf course looked like Newtonian physics for the field while Tiger was counting with his toes. It's the Chinese year of the Rat, looks like it should be a Tiger.
Lance Barrow is Coordinating Producer and Steve Milton is Director of CBS Sports' golf coverage.
Tony Petitti is Executive Vice President & Executive Producer, CBS Sports.
