TEE-TO-GREEN With Gary McCord:
(On Phil Mickelson not making the cut at FBR Open): Phil came out to Whisper Rock (Golf Club in Scottsdale) and I was there watching him play. He played well, really played well. I don't know how much effort he has put into practicing. I'm hearing reports that he practiced a lot with Butch Harmon and then I heard it was only for one day. Maybe he didn't put much into it, or maybe it was just one of those deals where he was just rusty. He usually starts off pretty well. We will look at this as a blip on the screen. This week he will be 20 minutes from his house and he loves Torrey Pines. Phil misses a cut and comes back the next week and wins, so we will sit back and watch. This is a good a field. We will see some birdies out there...(On other big names not making cut last week which included seven of 12 2008 U.S. Ryder Cup team): Can the guys who missed the cut last week get their game going here at Torrey Pines? It's like everyone is sleep-walking without Tiger playing. It was the who's who of the tour. You would think these guys would be clawing to the death. With Tigers imminent return near, you would think they would want to jump on these guys and get going as fast as they can because when Tiger gets back he will take all the money and run. It's amazing to me that these guys are not sprinting toward the Tiger starting line. They should be scaling the mountain instead of sitting at base camp waiting for the storm to clear. The storm is on the horizon again yet no one can really establish themselves right now.
