DONALD, McILROY, WATSON, WOODS AND MICKELSON HEAD FIELD AT “THE MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT PRESENTED BY NATIONWIDE INSURANCE" ON CBS SPORTS JUNE 2-3

One of the year’s strongest fields is competing with 20 of the Top 30 players in the Official World Golf Ranking, including #1 Luke Donald, #2 Rory McIlroy, #4 Bubba Watson, #9 Tiger Woods and #12 Phil Mickelson at THE MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT PRESENTED BY NATIONWIDE INSURANCE.  CBS Sports broadcasts the third and final rounds of the Memorial Tournament on Saturday, June 2 (3:00-6:00 PM, ET) and Sunday, June 3 (2:30-6:00 PM, ET), live from Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.

Jim Nantz, three-time Emmy Award winner and five-time National Sportscaster of the Year, now in his 27th year with CBS, serves as anchor of CBS Sports’ golf coverage. Sir Nick Faldo, winner of six major championships and more than 40 tournaments worldwide, serves as lead analyst. Ian Baker-Finch calls the action at the 17th hole and Gary McCord at the 16th hole.  David Feherty and Peter Kostis serve as on-course reporters.

Last year Steve Stricker became the first player in the history the Memorial Tournament to make eagles on a par-3, par-4 and par-5 in the same week on his way to a one-stroke victory over Matt Kuchar and Brandt Jobe. #10-ranked Stricker returns to defend his title in one of the strongest fields of the year that includes Donald, McIlroy, Watson, Woods, Mickelson, Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose, Hunter Mahan, Keegan Bradley, Louis Oosthuizen, Adam Scott, Charl Schwartzel, Jason Day, Bill Haas, Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, Nick Watney, Ryo Ishikawa, Jim Furyk, Dustin Johnson, Webb Simpson, Camilo Villegas, Bae Sang-Moon, Brandt Snedeker, Jhonattan Vegas, Lucas Glover, Johnson Wagner, Boo Weekley, Ricky Barnes, John Huh, Kevin Na, Geoff Ogilvy, Carl Pettersson, Angel Cabrera,  Jonathan Byrd, K.J. OFF THE TEE WITH SIR NICK FALDO

(On Bubba Watson’s and Dustin Johnson’s return to TOUR play)

These guys are anxious to get back after long layoffs. I spoke to Dustin Johnson. He’s been bored out of his mind for five or six weeks of doing nothing and then finally got back into things. I have no idea what to expect from Bubba. Whether he’s just been being a dad or if he’s still caught up in the emotion of winning the Masters?

(On Tiger’s return after THE PLAYERS)

Tiger is another one we’re not sure of. For the first time in his career he’s noticed that when he has time off he comes back rusty, like most normal guys. It must be puzzling for him after he won at Bay Hill and then to come out and have a fairly mediocre month. This week is going to be a really good test. I’m sure he could be driven more by the frustration about how he played in the past months. Tiger will come back and play well. He’s just dying to get in there. There is a countdown for the U.S. Open, which he’s got to have some game because that is a brutally tough course.

World Golf Hall of Fame member Jack Nicklaus hosts this tournament, which he won twice, on his signature designed Muirfield Village Golf Club.  The tournament is themed around people who have contributed to the game of golf and the 2012 Honoree is Tom Watson.

Lance Barrow is Coordinating Producer and Steve Milton is Director of CBS Sports’ golf coverage.  Harold Bryant is Executive Producer and Vice President, Production, CBS Sports.
