BILL MACATEE ASSUMES LEAD PLAY-BY-PLAY ROLE FOR CBS SPORTS’ COVERAGE OF 2012 U.S. OPEN TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
CBS Sports’ Bill Macatee will assume the lead play-by-play role, joining Mary Carillo and John McEnroe in the broadcast booth for the CBS Television Network’s coverage of the 2012 U.S. Open Tennis Championships. The announcement was made today by Sean McManus, Chairman, CBS Sports.
“Bill Macatee is a natural choice to assume the role of lead tennis play-by-play announcer for CBS Sports,” said McManus. “He is a highly respected, talented and versatile announcer who has been a fixture on CBS Sports’ U.S. Open Tennis broadcasts for 15 years and has called all four Grand Slam events during his career. Bill will be the perfect complement to John McEnroe and Mary Carillo in the booth."
In addition, CBS Sports’ coverage of the U.S. Open Tennis Championships will see Ian Eagle call play-by-play alongside Jim Courier, and Chris Wragge will serve as a contributor for the Network’s studio updates throughout the two weeks.
CBS Sports presents the U.S. Open Tennis Championships, tennis’ final major of the year and the only one played in the United States, for the 45th consecutive year. Coverage begins on Saturday, Sept. 1 (12:00 Noon–6:00 PM, ET) with men’s and women’s third-round action and concludes with the men’s singles championship on Sunday, Sept. 9 (4:00 PM, ET).
CBS Sports’ more than 37 hours of coverage will be complemented by CBS Sports Network’s more than 70 hours of studio and outer-court coverage of the 2012 U.S. Open from the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
