“If I don’t get some type of help and I don’t change what I’m doing right now I’m going to die within the next year” – Gibbs
(Hollywood, CA – May 17, 2012) – Robert Gibbs, the morbidly obese 23-year-old man whose desperate video plea to Dr. Phil for help in losing weight received national attention with over one million hits on YouTube, will appear on the talk show this Friday, May 18 (check local listings). Gibbs wants to reverse the way of life that has left him homebound and isolated.
“I feel like a prisoner in my own body,” said Gibbs.
Due to his extremely serious health condition, several precautions had to be taken before Robert could make the trip from his Northern California home to Los Angeles for the taping. He first had to be examined and cleared to travel by a physician and then accompanied by two ambulances and four emergency medical technicians who monitored Gibbs for the duration of the trip.
On the show, Gibbs’ mother admits she played a big role in her son’s current situation. Dr. Phil responded by saying, “We’ve got to get him better and I can’t do that if you continue to enable him.”
