CBS TELEVISION STATIONS SEEING DRAMATIC GROWTH WITH "CBS EVENING NEWS WITH KATIE COURIC"
National Newscast Spikes Double Digit Gains Throughout CBS O&O Markets
Local Newscasts Experience Dramatic Growth Across the Country
Two weeks after the debut of the "CBS Evening News with Katie Couric," 16 of CBS's owned and operated local stations are seeing dramatic growth for not only the national news broadcast but also their own local news programming. Compared to the same two week period last year, household ratings for the "CBS Evening News" on the 16 CBS stations are up +44%. Among the markets where the "CBS Evening News with Katie Couric" is performing strongest are New York's WCBS, up +67%; Los Angeles' KCBS, up +68%; Chicago's WBBM, up +65%; Philadelphia's KYW, up +58%; Boston's WBZ, up +60%; San Francisco's KPIX, up +33%; and Dallas's KTVT, up +44%,
Additionally, CBS owned stations across the country are feeling the ripple effect on their local newscasts. The stations have seen an average increase of up +6%. Among the strongest performers have been:
WCBS, CBS 2 News at 6pm is up +7% in HH rating while WNBC and WABC are both down year to year.
KCBS, CBS 2 News at 6pm is up +18% and ranked #2 compared to #3 a year ago and is the only 6pm newscast to show growth year to year.
WBBM, CBS 2 News at 5pm is up +13% and ranked #2 compared to #3 a year ago and is the only 5pm newscast to show growth year to year.
KYW, Eyewitness News at 6pm is up +8% and ranked #2 up from #3 a year ago and is the only 5pm newscast to show growth year to year.
