EXPERIENCE CBS NEWS SUNDAY MORNING IN HIGH-DEFINITION BEGINNING SUNDAY MAY 17 WHEN CHARLES OSGOOD ANCHORS THE BROADCAST'S ANNUAL "BY DESIGN" EDITION FROM THE BILTMORE ESTATE IN NORTH CAROLINA

CBS News SUNDAY MORNING will showcase its transition to high-definition programming with the broadcast of its special annual edition, "By Design" on Sunday, May 17 (9:00-10:30 AM, ET), on the CBS Television Network. The program will be anchored by Charles Osgood from the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.

In addition to escorting viewers through the grandiose Biltmore Estate, the broadcast will look in on a number of vastly different homes around the country. Correspondent Erin Moriarty visits Montecito, California, to tour the first Frank Lloyd Wright home ever built in the Golden State. While there, she talks with author TC Boyle, who restored the landmark home to its original 1909 design. Correspondent John Blackstone will take a more nautical tack, as he boards some of the more exotically designed houseboats that dot the coastline of the Pacific Northwest. And if there was ever a case for less is more, correspondent Richard Schlesinger finds it in the rather unique home of Museum of Modern Art curator Klaus Biesenbach. His one bedroom/one bath apartment, which contains just three chairs and a television, is a tribute to minimalism.

Correspondent David Martin reports from the UCLA Medical Center where doctors are designing ways to restructure the human face. He'll also speak with Dr. Timothy Miller, MD, who runs Operation Mend in partnership with Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Tex. Miller, a renowned plastic surgeon is rebuilding the faces - and lives - of servicemen and women disfigured by roadside bomb blasts.

From the hills of Asheville, North Carolina, correspondent Martha Teichner looks at how today's retirees are redesigning their retirements to suit the needs of their more active "golden years."

SUNDAY MORNING's "By Design" will also catch up with clothing king Tommy Hilfiger whose cool, clean designs have become American classics, go behind the scenes to show the intricacy involved in designing perfume, examine how eyeglass design is not only a fashion statement but also a statement of personality and climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower, which at 120 years old still represents the cutting edge of design.

Rand Morrison is the executive producer of SUNDAY MORNING.
