SHOWTIME ANNOUNCES WINNER OF ITS 6th ANNUAL LATINO FILMMAKER SHOWCASE

Winning Film and Two Finalist Films will air on the Network
October 5 at 8:00 – 10:00 P.M. ET/PT
 
Los Angeles, CA (September 21, 2005) — As part of a continuing commitment to develop and support up-and-coming Latino filmmakers, Showtime Networks Inc., in collaboration with the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF), is proud to announce that Jose-Carlos Ruiz is the winner of SHOWTIME’S 6th Annual Latino Filmmaker Showcase. Ruiz, who directed the short film CUADRILATERO, will receive a $30,000 grant to use towards the production of another short film, which will have its exclusive world premiere on SHOWTIME.
 
CUADRILATERO will headline the SHOWTIME Latino Filmmaker Showcase airing on the network Wednesday, October 5 at 8:00 – 10:00 P.M. ET/PT, along with multiple encore telecasts celebrating national Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15). In addition to Ruiz’s film, the Latino Filmmaker Showcase will feature two additional short films that received finalist status. Following their premiere, these shorts will run individually throughout the month.
 
The honored films were selected by a panel of ten Showtime executives and will go on to compete in the shorts division of the LALIFF, taking place from October 21-30 in Los Angeles.
 
 
FILM SYNOPSES:
 
CUADRILATERO, directed by Jose-Carlos Ruiz and produced by Jose-Antonio Bonet. In this drama, four characters with no names—who are incapable of expressing their feelings--love each other without being loved.
 
SECUESTRO, a film written, directed and edited by Juan Castilo, deals with three first-time kidnappers who are forced scramble as their plan implodes right before their eyes. Sequestered in a remote mountain hut for two weeks, their conflicting ambitions and mounting tensions pave the way towards chaos.
 
 
JULIETA Y RAMON, a film by Hugo Perez and Andreas Wagner. Julieta is finding it hard to find “Mr. Right” because of her erotic fascination with U.S. President Ronald Reagan. That is until she meets Ramon, who has a fascination of his own. Can this odd couple make it work?
