Sunday’s episode follows the standoff between the Senate Judiciary Committee and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, the California professor accusing Kavanaugh of sexual assault in high school, an allegation Kavanaugh denies. Having worked to confirm Supreme Court Justice nominations for previous Republican administrations, Schmidt gives context on how Senate Republicans, Democrats and the Trump Administration are responding to the accusations. Throughout the episode, THE CIRCUS explores the parallels between the current showdown and the 1991 testimony of Anita Hill during the confirmation process of Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas. Amid the #MeToo movement and looming midterm elections, the battle puts the actions of Republicans and Democrats under a microscope.
