NEW YORK, NY, May 2, 2011 - It was announced today that Simon & Schuster will publish the untitled memoir of the Academy Award-winning actress Melissa Leo.  Priscilla Painton Executive Editor of S&S negotiated the deal for World Rights and Audio with Dan Strone, CEO of Trident Media Group.  Publication is planned for 2013.

The memoir captures the life and career of one of the most talented and revered Hollywood stars, winner of the 2011 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Fighter, and currently starring in the hit HBO series Treme and Mildred Pierce.

"Melissa has a moving and gutsy story to tell, with a very happy ending," said Priscilla Painton. "We look forward to making it possible for her to tell it."

After a quarter century of work on stage and on the screen, Melissa Leo has become an actress known for her extraordinary ability to immerse herself into her characters. She has created some of Hollywood's most powerful portraits: Sergeant Kay Howard in Homicide, Marianne in 21 Grams, Ray in Frozen River, Alice Ward in The Fighter.  In her autobiography, Leo describes her chaotic and unusual childhood, her stormy breakup with actor John Heard and her long battle to obtain custody of her only son.  She describes her journey through the capricious world of entertainment , and her determination to look for ways to deepen her life and her work,  and, ultimately to stay true to herself.  This is a story about how to live an honest life and find happiness half way along the way.

Melissa said, "My work requires that I inhabit other people's lives but my memoir demands that I take on the toughest role of my career - playing myself.  I will give it my whole heart and soul."
