CBS Has Top Three Scripted Programs and Eight of Top 10 in Week Four
CBS won the viewer crown for week four of the 2018-2019 television season and has retaken the lead as the most-watched network for the season-to-date. THE BIG BANG THEORY, NCIS and YOUNG SHELDON were once again the top three most-watched scripted series, while FBI was the most-watched new drama according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Oct. 21.
For week four of the new season, CBS had an average of 7.54 million viewers, beating second place NBC (7.16m) followed by ABC (4.70m) and FOX (4.30m). Season-to-date, CBS is first with 8.84 million viewers, and NBC is second (8.69m), followed by FOX (5.85m) and ABC (5.79m).
CBS had the top three scripted programs in viewers for the week – THE BIG BANG THEORY, NCIS and YOUNG SHELDON – with FBI, GOD FRIENDED ME, BLUE BLOODS, NCIS: LOS ANGELES and MOM as eight of the top 10 scripted series. THE BIG BANG THEORY was the #1 scripted series and comedy of the week. NCIS and FBI were week four’s top two dramas. FBI and GOD FRIENDED ME were the top two new dramas.
On Tuesday, CBS dramas drove the Network to a first-place finish in viewers (9.46m) for the fourth consecutive week. CBS also won every half-hour in viewers for the third consecutive Tuesday. NCIS was first in viewers (11.87m), was the night’s most-watched program and was the #2 entertainment show of the week (behind BIG BANG THEORY). New drama FBI was also the week’s #1 new drama in viewers (9.31m). NCIS: NEW ORLEANS was also first in its time period in viewers (7.20m).
On Thursday, CBS was second in viewers (8.14m), adults 25-54 (2.0/07) and adults 18-49 (1.2/05) behind NFL football. Additionally, at 8:00 PM, THE BIG BANG THEORY was first in viewers (12.22m), adults 25-54 (3.3/12) and adults 18-49 (2.1/09). At 8:30 PM, YOUNG SHELDON was first in viewers (11.00m) and was the night’s #2 program in viewers. MOM was second in viewers (8.12m), adults 25-54 (2.2/07) and adults 18-49 (1.3/05), as was MURPHY BROWN (viewers 6.39m, adults 25-54 - 1.5/05 and adults 18-49 - 0.9/04). At 10:00 PM, S.W.A.T. was also second in viewers (5.49m). Compared to last week, S.W.A.T. added +90,000 viewers (from 5.40m, +2%) while posting season-best viewers delivery.
On Friday, the Network was first in viewers (7.32m) for the fourth consecutive Friday. MACGYVER was first in viewers (6.01m) as was HAWAII FIVE-0 (7.48m). HAWAII FIVE-0 was the night’s #2 program in viewers, behind BLUE BLOODS, which was the most-watched program on Friday (8.46m). Compared to last week, BLUE BLOODS added +120,000 viewers (from 8.34m, +2%).
On Sunday, CBS was second in viewers (12.23m), adults 25-54 (3.1/10) and adults 18-49 (2.3/09) behind “Sunday Night Football.” 60 MINUTES was first in viewers (14.07m) and posted its best delivery in viewers and key demos since March 25. GOD FRIENDED ME was second in viewers (8.86m), adults 25-54 (1.9/06) and adults 18-49 (1.2/05). Compared to last week, GOD FRIENDED ME was up +12% in adults 25-54 (from 1.7/05) and +20% in adults 18-49 (from 1.0/04), and added +960,000 viewers (from 7.90m, +12%). GOD FRIENDED ME was the night’s #1 scripted series in viewers with its best delivery in both viewers and key demos since its series premiere. NCIS: LOS ANGELES was second in viewers (8.35m), adults 25-54 (1.6/05) and adults 18-49 (1.1/04). Compared to last week, NCIS: LOS ANGELES was up +7% in adults 25-54 (from 1.5/04) and +10% in adults 18-49 (from 1.0/03), and added +720,000 viewers (from 7.63m, +9%). NCIS: LOS ANGELES also posted its best deliveries since the season 10 premiere. MADAM SECRETARY delivered 5.80m viewers to finish second to football.
