Gallagher Family Surprised Live On-Air with One Year's Worth of Free Groceries and Other Aid in Their Time of Need

LOS ANGELES - Steve and Treva Gallagher and their daughters Katie, 15, and Olivia, 10, from Minnetonka, Minn., appeared on THE TALK today as part of the show's "Heart of the Holidays" series which shares the heartwarming and emotional stories of five families struggling this holiday season and airs Dec. 13-17 (1:00, PM, CT) on the CBS Television Network.  The first day of the series featured the Gallagher's tale, followed by host Sara Gilbert surprising them live in studio with news of some much-needed aid, including one year's worth of free groceries. 

With both parents out of work for the past two years, Steve, his wife, Treva, and their two daughters have had to make immense sacrifices over the last few months.  In addition to seeking assistance from the local food bank, the family had to make the difficult decision to pull their oldest child, a promising golfer, from her team due to a lack of funds to purchase equipment and lessons.

After sharing their story on THE TALK, the Gallaghers were surprised to learn that Bank of America donated one year's worth of groceries to their family and made a one million dollar donation to the Feeding America/Boys and Girls Clubs of America Food Program.  The family, who has not shopped in over two years, also received a gift pack today valued at $5,000 from the Mall of America for clothes and entertainment for the entire family.  In addition, the Gallaghers learned that Callaway Golf will fly Katy and one of her parents to the Pro Facility in Carlsbad, Calif., to fit her for new equipment and professional performance analysis. 

THE TALK, CBS's new daily daytime talk show that examines topical events and contemporary issues through the eyes of six female hosts who are all mothers, airs weekdays (2:00-3:00 PM, ET; 1:00-2:00 PM, PT).  THE TALK is hosted by Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini and Marissa Jaret Winokur.  Brad Bessey, Gilbert, who developed the show, and John Redmann are executive producers.
