The Meyers Family Surprised On-Air with Educational Scholarships,

Job Search Support and a New Family Car

LOS ANGELES - Todd and Theresa Meyers, their daughters Caytlin, 18, and Courtney, 16, and their 9-year-old son Clay, from Newton, Iowa, appeared on Friday's edition of CBS's THE TALK as part of the show's "Heart of the Holidays" segment.  The series shares the heartwarming and emotional stories of five families struggling this holiday season and aired during the week of Dec. 13-17 (1:00, PM, CT), on the CBS Television Network.  Friday's segment featured the Meyers, who were surprised by host Leah Remini's news that educational scholarships have been established for Courtney and Caytlin, Todd will receive job search assistance and that they are the owners of a new family car.

Todd Meyer, a Gulf War veteran who served in the Navy 1990-96, is losing his job as a telecom engineer at the end of 2010.  His wife, Theresa, is currently working two part-time jobs, and the family is anxious about how they will afford the remaining two years of college for Caytlin, who currently is a student at Central College in Pella, and Courtney, who will be applying next year.

After sharing their story on THE TALK, the Meyers family was surprised to learn that Doris Buffett's foundation, Sunshine Ladies, has agreed to manage educational scholarships for Caytlin and Courtney.  In addition, Genesis 10, a Des Moines executive search firm, has set up job interviews for Todd when he returns home, and Microsoft donated five complete hardware and software packages for the entire family.  Before the family left the stage, Beezag, an online promotion company, presented Todd with a much-needed new car.

THE TALK, CBS's new daily daytime talk show that examines topical events and contemporary issues through the eyes of six female hosts who are all mothers, airs weekdays (2:00-3:00 PM, ET; 1:00-2:00 PM, PT).  THE TALK is hosted by Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini and Marissa Jaret Winokur.  Brad Bessey, Gilbert, who developed the show, and John Redmann are executive producers.
