HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (October 25, 2011) – Sex. Power. Murder. Amen. Get an unvarnished portrait of one of history’s most intriguing families when the sinful period drama, THE BORGIAS: THE FIRST SEASON, comes to Blu-rayTM and DVD on December 27 from Showtime Networks, CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment.  Follow the Borgia family as they orchestrate a relentless reign of power and flamboyant cruelty and ruthlessly climb to the top of religious and political life in Renaissance-era Rome.

Acclaimed actor Jeremy Irons, “divine as Catholic leader” (New York Daily News), stars as Rodrigo Borgia, the cunning, manipulative patriarch of the Borgia family whose rise to power and position as Pope Alexander VI propels him and his children into the highest and most powerful circles of society in Renaissance Rome.  With the help of his family, Alexander takes on his enemies while striking alliances with other European powers to strengthen his position as Pope. From creator and executive producer Neil Jordan, THE BORGIAS sizzles with “historical, incestuous, murderous fun” (New York Post), and also stars François Arnaud, Holliday Grainger, Joanne Whalley, Lotte Verbeek, David Oakes and Colm Feore. 

THE BORGIAS: THE FIRST SEASON on Blu-ray and DVD features all nine provocative one-hour episodes of the first season. The three-disc DVD set will be available for the suggested retail price of $49.99 U.S and the three-disc Blu-ray set will have a suggested retail price of $67.99 U.S.

The three-disc DVD set is presented in widescreen with English 5.1 Surround, English 2.0 Stereo and Spanish Mono.  The three-disc Blu-ray set is presented in 1080p High Definition with English 5.1 Dolby TrueHD and Spanish 2.0 Stereo Surround, plus English and English SDH subtitles. The DVD is not rated in the U.S.  The total running time is approximately 467 minutes.  Disc breakdown is as follows:
