            Priya David has been named a CBS News correspondent, it was announced by Sean McManus, President, CBS News and Sports.  She will be based in New York and will report primarily for THE EARLY SHOW and the CBS EVENING NEWS weekend editions.  The appointment is effective immediately.


            David has been a general assignment reporter at KTVU-TV San Francisco since February 2005.  She has covered the Southern California wildfires, the death of journalist Chauncey Bailey and the fallout of the Oakland police brutality scandal, as well as many environmental and technology stories.  David also reported business and culture stories from Bangalore.


            Before that, she was a reporter for MSNBC, covering Vice President Dick Cheney (2004-05) and a campaign embedded reporter, covering presidential hopeful Dick Gephardt and Cheney (2003-04).  During that time, David contributed several reports to the weekend edition of "NBC Nightly News."  Previously, she worked fulltime in NBC News' highly selective News Associate Program (2002-03), including as a general assignment reporter for WVTM-TV, the NBC station in Birmingham, Ala., and as a researcher at "Nightly News with Tom Brokaw" and "Dateline NBC" at NBC and "The News with Brian Williams" at MSNBC.


            David was a producer at KKFX-TV Santa Barbara, Calif.; Orange County News Channel and Garden Grove News in Orange County (1998-2002).


            She was graduated with honors from Westmont (Santa Barbara) College in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in anthropology and with honors from the Annenberg School at the University of Southern California in 2002 with a master's degree in broadcast journalism.  Along the way, David also completed internships at CNN in London, the Foreign Correspondents Program in Finland and at ABC's "Peter Jennings Reporting" unit.  Her first foray into journalism was an article for the school newspaper in the fourth grade.


            David was born in Chennai, India, and grew up in Falls Church, Va.; Yorba Linda, Calif.; Brussels and London, where her father worked for an American company that worked with NATO.  She lives in New York.
