Cleaves, a three-time All-American during his career at Michigan State, was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2000 Final Four after leading the Spartans to the National Championship. He also was twice named the Big Ten Player of the Year.
Cleaves was the 14th overall selection in the 2000 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons and played for the Pistons, Sacramento Kings, Seattle Supersonics, Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers over the course of his seven-year NBA career. He also played in the NBDL with the Huntsville Kings and Bakersfield Jam as well as in Greece and Russia.
In addition to his work with CBS Sports Network, Cleaves also serves as an analyst for Fox Sports Detroit’s coverage of the Pistons. In 2007, Cleaves launched the Mateen Cleaves Community Outreach Foundation as a tribute to his late mother, Frances Cleaves. The Foundation is a non-profit organization with a mission to encourage others to use their talents, influence and resources to give back to their communities.
