Alabama under Pressure

The pressure of being No. 1 and repeating hasn't even started yet for Alabama. As they talk about how they are handling everything, they don't even know how it's going to build. I saw it in Florida last year. It's like what they say about the Masters, that it doesn't start until the back nine on Sunday. Alabama is not even to the back nine on Sunday yet. South Carolina might be the 10th hole. It really is going to start now. The pressure's going to start mounting.

South Carolina's Balanced Attack

Because of the emergence of his running back Marcus Lattimore, this is the first team Steve Spurrier has had at South Carolina where he can attack with his whole offense.  In the past at South Carolina, he's had to play to his strengths which sometimes is running, sometimes is passing. But he never had the balance to be able to use both. This is the first time that Steve has an offense at South Carolina that he can try to manage the game. Before, he really had to play to a one-dimensional attack. With this team, he can try to be the 'Creative Steve' that he was at Florida, where he can keep them off-balance running and passing the ball.

The Strength of Alabama

Usually when you watch a team, the more you watch them, the more you see the weaknesses or the possibilities of their liabilities where you might attack them. The more I've watched Alabama, the more I've become impressed with their lack of weaknesses. They're very balanced at every level on offense and defense. Usually I have the opposite feeling when I watch a team. I watch them and I watch them and I say 'This guy's not as good as the hype.'  This Alabama team, the more I watch them the more I say, 'Gosh, this group is good.' This defensive line is good. These outside linebackers are good. These safeties are good. These tight ends are good. It's kind of unique for me. I haven't seen a lot of teams that way. The last team I ever saw like this where the more I watched them, the better they got, was the 2002 Ohio State team that won the national championship.
