Press Release back to list

The PGA TOUR moves to White Sulphur Springs in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia this week for the GREENBRIER CLASSIC.  CBS Sports will be on-hand with third- and final-round coverage of the Greenbrier Classic from The Old White TPC Course on Saturday, July 7 and Sunday, July 8 (3:00-6:00 PM, ET, both days), live on the CBS Television Network.

Jim Nantz, three-time Emmy Award Winner and five-time National Sportscaster of the Year, serves as anchor of CBS Sports’ golf coverage. Sir Nick Faldo, winner of six major championships and more than 40 tournaments worldwide, serves as lead analyst. Ian Baker-Finch calls the action at the 17th hole and Peter Kostis at the 16th hole.  David Feherty serves as on-course reporter.

Last year, PGA TOUR rookie Scott Stallings shot a 1-under 69 during the final round of the Greenbrier Classic and then birdied the first extra playoff hole to beat Bill Haas and Bill Estes to win his first TOUR event in his 21st career start.

Tiger Woods competes for the first time at the Greenbrier Classic.  Woods is coming off his 74th PGA TOUR win last week at the AT&T National, surpassing Jack Nicklaus for second all-time on the PGA TOUR, behind Sam Snead (82). He is the only three-time winner this season.  Ranked #4 in the world, Woods took over the lead in the FedExCup standings for the first time in 100 weeks and leads Jason Dufner by 103 points.

Woods headlines an impressive field that includes this year’s U.S Open winner Webb Simpson,   Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker, Dustin Johnson, Keegan Bradley, Jim Furyk, Marc Leishman, Stuart Appelby, Vijay Singh, Sang-Moon Bae, Jhonattan Vegas, Davis Love III, Camilo Villegas, D.A. Points, Jeff Overton, K.J. Choi, Lucas Glover, Rory Sabbatini, Sean O’Hair, Andres Romero, Charlie Hoffman, Kevin Na, Ricky Barnes, Tom Watson, Haas, Estes, defending champion Stallings and local fan favorite and Kentucky native Kenny Perry. Other players with local ties include J.B. Holmes from Campbellsville, Ken., Johnson Wagner and Brendon de Jonge who both attended Virginia Tech.

The Greenbrier is an award-winning resort and a National Historic Landmark in the picturesque Allegheny Mountains.  Sam Snead, World Golf Hall of Famer and the winningest player in PGA TOUR history, was the resort’s pro for 29 years and served as Golf Professional Emeritus from 1993 until his death in 2002.

Lance Barrow is Coordinating Producer and Steve Milton is Director of CBS Sports’ golf coverage.  Harold Bryant is Executive Producer and Vice President, Production, CBS Sports.
