"THE NFL TODAY" Earns Highest Regular-Season Viewership in 12 Years, Up 20% THE NFL ON CBS averaged the highest viewership for the AFC package in 23 years, as it averaged 18.747 million viewers (Persons 2+), a 9% increase over 2009's 17.211 million viewers. This year's 18.747 million viewers is the highest number of average viewers for the full 17 week regular-season for the AFC television package in 23 years. (As far back as CBS records go; 1987).
