NEWS AND NOTES FROM CBS SPORTS NETWORK’S

INSIDE COLLEGE FOOTBALL

(AARON TAYLOR ON TEXAS-OKLAHOMA):

Texas got torched by West Virginia, no question. But you saw promise there. And something that I saw that I really liked out of that Texas defense was that front four. Those guys got after Geno Smith. And that’s what they had to do to be able to give themselves a chance to win. Now with that said, they got gassed up the middle. You can’t pick your poison. You have to show up against both. Damien Williams is starting to emerge for Oklahoma running the football. Texas has to be able to stop the run of Oklahoma first. And then pin their ears back and get after Landry Jones. If they do that, I think they’ll win the game.

(RANDY CROSS ON SOUTH CAROLINA-LSU):

Let’s credit (South Carolina) defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward, who is having a heck of a year. He and defensive line coach Brad Lawing (is also having a good year). With Devin Taylor and Jadeveon Clowney, they can take some chances. They can gamble a little bit with their coverages because they know they are going to get the heat. I don’t care if it is Death Valley, Zach Mettenberger will not be a comfortable quarterback on Saturday.
