New York, NY — February 16, 2016 – In an exclusive airing on Thursday, INSIDE EDITION speaks with the paramedics who saved Britney Spears’ 8-year-old niece, Maddie, after the terrifying ATV accident that left her underwater for minutes.

Miraculously, EMT Victoria Raggonath and paramedic John Fortner were stationed just two minutes away when they got the emergency call. When they arrived at the home of Maddie’s mother, Jamie Lynn Spears, they found the ATV upside down, completely submerged in the pond. Jamie Lynn and Maddie’s stepfather were in the water desperately trying to save Maddie.

They were doing everything they could to try to free her from the ATV. They just weren’t able to successfully get to her,” Fortner tells INSIDE EDITION.

Fortner and Raggonath both entered the water and worked to get the ATV on its side. That’s when they finally saw Maddie. “When we got to her, she was not conscious and she was laid across the seat and tangled up in the netting – the safety netting that runs around the ATV,” Fortner says.

When they finally freed her from the ATV, she did not have a pulse and wasn’t breathing. They put her in the ambulance and raced to meet a Medevac helicopter.

John started CPR and I started ventilating her with a bag mask valve,” Raggonath told INSIDE EDITION.

After frantically trying to rescue Maddie, they were finally able to get her pulse back. “All I can say is it was God’s hand,” says Raggonath. “Prayers answered,” Fortner adds.
