SHOWTIME HONORED WITH 21 EMMY NOMINATIONS INCLUDING THE NETWORK’S FIRST OUTSTANDING LIMITED SERIES NOMINATION

LOS ANGELES – July 12, 2018 – Today, SHOWTIME was recognized with 21 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including the network’s first limited series nomination for PATRICK MELROSE, THE FOURTH ESTATE for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series and four actor nominations for PATRICK MELROSE’s Benedict Cumberbatch, SHAMELESS’ William H. Macy, and HOMELAND’s Mandy Patinkin and F. Murray Abraham. SHOWTIME was also honored in the writing and directing categories for TWIN PEAKS and PATRICK MELROSE. Overall, SHOWTIME received nine nominations for TWIN PEAKS, five for PATRICK MELROSE, three for HOMELAND and two for SHAMELESS. 

PATRICK MELROSE received top honors for Outstanding Limited Series. Benedict Cumberbatch was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for playing the title character in the five-part limited series. This is Cumberbatch’s sixth Emmy nomination, and sixth as a Lead Actor in a Limited Series, Mini Series or Movie tying him with Sir Laurence Olivier for the second most ever nominations in this category. PATRICK MELROSE also received nominations for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special (Edward Berger’s first Emmy nomination), Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series Movie or Dramatic Special (David Nicholls’ first Emmy nomination) Outstanding Casting for a Limited Series or Special (Nina Gold’s 12th nomination and Martin Ware’s first).

TWIN PEAKS received a total of nine nominations including David Lynch for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special, Outstanding Writing or a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special and Outstanding Sound Design Limited Series, Movie or Special. TWIN PEAKS also received six additional nominations in the craft categories, including Peter Deming for Cinematography (his first nomination); Ruth De Jong, Cara Brower and Florencia Martin for Production Design; Clare M. Corsick and Bryn Leetch for Hairstyling; Ron Eng, Dean Hurley and Douglas Axtell for Sound Mixing; Debbie Zoller and Richard Redlefsen for Makeup (non-prosthetic); and Duwayne Dunham for Editing (Single Camera). In addition to Lynch, Mark Frost was also honored with a Writing nomination and additional Sound Design honorees include Ron Eng, Dean Hurley, David A. Cohen, Kerry Dean Williams, Luke Gibleon and Willard Overstreet.

SHAMELESS star William H. Macy has gone five for five since the series switched to the comedy category, receiving a fifth consecutive Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, for his role as Frank Gallagher. This is Macy’s 14th nomination overall. The series also received a nomination for Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Comedy Series or Variety Program for 2016 and 2017 Emmy winner Eddie Perez. This is his third consecutive year being nominated in this category. SHAMELESS is currently in production on its ninth season, which will premiere on Sunday, September 9 at 9 p.m.

For the second consecutive year, HOMELAND’s Mandy Patinkin was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. This is his fourth nomination for his role as Saul Berenson on HOMELAND and seventh Emmy nomination overall.  F. Murray Abraham also received his second nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Dar Adal. The series also received its second consecutive nomination for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Craig Dellinger, Eric Raber, Ian Shedd, Ryne Gierke, Shawn Kennelly, Jeff Charbonneau, Melissa Kennelly and Vincent Nicastro). HOMELAND will go into production on an eighth season later this year.

SHOWTIME received top honors for Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Series for its groundbreaking original documentary series, THE FOURTH ESTATE. SHOWTIME was also honored with a nomination for THE PUTIN INTERVIEWS for Outstanding Original Title Theme Music.
