(New York, New York, January 18, 2011) Free Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, Inc., announced today that it will publish, in time for Father's Day, 2012, ALONG THE WAY by actors Emilio Estevez and Martin Sheen. An inspiring dual memoir told in the alternating voices of father and son, and written with Hope Edelman (bestselling author of Motherless Daughters), ALONG THE WAY is a story of family, faith, and friendship.

Spanning nearly 50 years of family history, ALONG THE WAY chronicles the remarkable lives of these two creative talents.  It is organized around their physical and spiritual journey along the Camino de Santiago, Spain, the thousand-year-old pilgrimage path, which traverses Galicia, the area from which Sheen's father emigrated to the U.S., and to which Estevez's own son has returned. ALONG THE WAY explores the themes of quest and redemption depicted in Estevez's new film, "The Way" (April, 2011 release), in which he directs his father. The book will celebrate their profound bond, give candid insights into the actors' lives and relationship, examine the triumphs and challenges and inner and outer stages of the journey of a father and son, and tell of their individual search for faith and their differing spiritual practices.

Estevez says, "I'm so happy to be working on this unique project with my father. We're both fathers of sons, we're neighbors and activists, and we hope that our story will communicate an essential message for our times: Film is an illusion. Fame is ephemeral. Faith and family are what endure."

World English rights for ALONG THE WAY were acquired by Free Press VP, Senior Editor Leslie Meredith from literary agents Scott Waxman and Elizabeth Kaplan.
