CBS NEWS’ PROGRAMS POWER TO #1 POSITIONS IN PRIMETIME AND SUNDAY MORNINGS WITH KEY NEWS DEMO AND VIEWERS

CBS News programs powered to strong #1 finishes in primetime and Sunday morning with key news demo and viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same for the week ending May 3.

The Network’s broadcasts of 48 HOURS, CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD and FACE THE NATION WITH BOB SCHIEFFER each earned time period wins with adults 25-54, the demographic most desired by those who advertise in news, and viewers.

Moreover, 60 MINUTES delivered a time period win in viewers on Sunday, while CBS THIS MORNING was the only network morning news broadcast to maintain its delivered of adults 25-54, while also posting a solid +12% gain in viewers over the same period a year ago.

CBS News broadcasts last week featured Norah O’Donnell’s original reporting on the future of YouTube; Bob Schieffer’s interview of NAACP President Cornell William Brooks; Jan Crawford’s look at the band Alabama Shakes; Jeff Pegues’ segments on death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore; Peter Van Sant on the case of a Florida woman who claimed she dreamt about a friend’s murder; and Seth Doane’s ongoing reporting from the earthquake disaster in Nepal.

Here’s a recap of the ratings performance of CBS News programs last week:

60 MINUTES was Sunday’s #1 broadcast at 7:00 PM with viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for May 3.

CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY season-to-date is up +2% and delivering 7.28 million viewers, according to Nielsen most current ratings through the week ending May 1.

FACE THE NATION was the #1 Sunday morning public affairs program with adults 25-54 and viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for May 3. Editor’s Note: FACE THE NATION’s second half-hour was broadcast contiguously across 76.3% of the CBS affiliates.  FACE THE NATION was up +14% with adults 25-54.

CBS THIS MORNING was the only network morning news broadcast to post year-to-year gains in viewers (+12%, 3.72m from 3.33m) and hold its 25-54 audience (0.9/07), according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending May 1. For the second consecutive week, this marks the closest competitive position to the TODAY show for a CBS morning news broadcast in more than 20 years (since the week ending 12/30/1994).

CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD was the #1 Sunday morning news program in adults 25-54 and viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for May 3.

48 HOURS was the #1 broadcast with adults 25-54 and viewers in the 10:00 PM time slot, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for May 2.

CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY was the only Saturday morning network news broadcast to post year-to-year gains in adults 25-54 (+20%, 0.6/04 from 0.5/03), according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for May 2. CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY was up +8% in viewers (2.03m from 1.89m).
