THIS JUST IN From CBS Daytime TELEVISION'S LONGEST-RUNNING DRAMA, CBS'S GUIDING LIGHT, TO BROADCAST A SPECIAL EPISODE SHOWCASING VOLUNTEER EFFORTS IN THE GULF COAST, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 14

GUIDING LIGHT, television's longest-running drama, will broadcast a special episode showcasing the results of the cast and crew's volunteer efforts in the Gulf Coast on Wednesday, February 14, (check local listings) on the CBS Television Network.  At the end of January, during the week of its 70th anniversary, GUIDING LIGHT shut down production in their New York studio to volunteer and rebuild homes devastated by Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast.  Viewers will now get the chance to see actual footage of the cast hard at work visiting schools, building three homes, and turning over a completely finished home to a family who lost everything in the hurricane.

Throughout the year, GUIDING LIGHT cast members will travel to a different city each month, encouraging their fans to volunteer alongside them, in a partnership with the Hands On Network.  This unique partnership hopes to provide an inspirational platform to engage more people in volunteering.

GUIDING LIGHT, the longest-running show in broadcast history, has always stayed ahead of the times, debuting on radio in 1937, transitioning to television in 1952 and becoming the first television show to podcast audio-only episodes in 2006.  The show, which tapes in New York City, celebrated its 70th anniversary on the air in January 2007 and can be seen weekdays on the CBS Television Network (check local listings).
