“48 HOURS: VENGEANCE IN VEGAS” IS SATURDAY’S #1 NON-SPORTS PROGRAM WITH VIEWERS

48 HOURS: “Vengeance in Vegas” was Saturday’s #1 non-sports program with viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Oct. 17. The broadcast delivered 4.76 million viewers (up +2% from the same night last year) and a 1.1/03 with adults 25-54, the demographic that matters most to those who advertise in news.

Saturday’s broadcast featured Peter Van Sant and 48 HOURS’s investigation into the death of Shauna Tiaffay, a beautiful mom who was brutally murdered in her home after working a shift as a Las Vegas casino cocktail waitress. At the time, her husband, George Tiaffay, a West Point Military Academy grad and Las Vegas firefighter, was at work.

Just 48 hours into the investigation, detectives got a crucial tip from William Pennix, who had been working in Las Vegas for years as a maintenance man at an apartment complex. Pennix told police he got an urgent call from a friend who told him he had just killed a woman. The tip led to a man nicknamed “Greyhound,” as investigators searched for clues in the desert, far away from the Vegas strip. The tip led to the eventual arrest and conviction of George Tiaffay for hiring Noel “Greyhound” Stevens to kill Shauna Tiaffay.

48 HOURS: “Vengeance in Vegas” is produced by Allen Alter, Alec Sirken, Chris Young Ritzen, Cindy Cesare and Chris O’Connell. George Baluzy is the producer-editor. Mike Baluzy, Maria Barrow, Kevin Dean, Marlon Disla and Alan Miller are the editors. Anthony Batson is the senior broadcast producer. Susan Zirinsky is the senior executive producer.
